UPDATE: Megan Boswell, Tennessee Mom Of Missing 15-Month-Old Baby Girl, Under Arrest, Police Say

A Tennessee grand jury has indicted Megan “Maggie” Boswell for the murder of her 15-month-old daughter, Evelyn Mae.

According to Johnson City’s WJHL-TV, Boswell, 19, currently faces a total of 19 charges: two counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated child neglect, one count of aggravated child abuse, one count of tampering with evidence, one count of abuse of corpse, one count of failure to report a death under suspicious, unusual, or unnatural circumstances, and 12 counts of false reporting.

Evelyn was last seen alive in December 2019 but not reported missing until the baby’s grandfather contacted child protective services on Feb. 18, 2020. Boswell was arrested one week later for making false reports. Her toddler’s remains were found Mar. 6 on property belonging to a family member.

"After an extensive and thorough investigation, other individuals were eliminated as suspects and Megan Boswell became the sole suspect in this case,” Jeff Cassidy of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday. “We are determined to make sure that justice is served for baby Evelyn.”

A judge ordered Boswell held on $1 million bond at the Sullivan County Jail. Her next court hearing is currently scheduled for Aug. 28.

The Tennessee mother of a missing 15-month-old girl who was last seen in December but only recently reported missing has been arrested and accused of lying, police said.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office took Megan Boswell, 18, into custody on Tuesday evening, Feb. 25, and charged her with one count of false reports. She is currently being held in the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Boswell “provided detectives and agents with a number of conflicting statements” after they began looking into the disappearance of Evelyn Mae Boswell, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

“Further investigation revealed that some of the information provided by Megan Boswell was false,” officials added.

Shortly before her arrest, Boswell claimed to WJHL-TV that she had given conflicting statements to investigators because she was “trying to protect” her mother, Angela Boswell, 42.

“I wanted to trust her,” Megan Boswell said in the Feb. 25 interview, alleging her mom had reassured her that Evelyn was “safe.”

Angela Boswell, 42, and her boyfriend, William McCloud, 33, were both arrested and charged with possession of stolen property on Feb. 21 in North Carolina after a 2007 BMW they were driving was reported stolen in Tennessee.

The grandma, who was extradited to Tennessee, where she remains incarcerated, was also arrested on a warrant for violating probation stemming from an unrelated incident, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

McCloud has claimed he was unaware the car was stolen.

In a second interview Megan Boswell gave the day of her arrest, she told WCYB-TV that she’s pregnant and that the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office could not give her a polygraph test “due to policy.”

The sheriff’s office said they are not the agency that administers the tests, according to the station.

Boswell also stated she “would never hurt Evelyn or do anything like that,” and she remains confident the baby will be returned to her unharmed.

“It's not about getting whoever in trouble, it's just about getting Evelyn back," the mom said.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office began looking into Evelyn’s disappearance after her grandfather reported the toddler missing to the State of Tennessee Department of Children’s Services on Feb. 18.
